Nayab Anant Sen’t daughter Tara (Pranoti) and Ghanshyam (Dharmendra) the only son of Nawadeep Dhali were teen aged playmates. Together they used to climb trees and go for fishing. Suddenly this childhood intimacy was broken when Nawdeep Dhali sent his motherless son in care of his sister for higher studies.

After few years when Ghanshyam returned to his village – we see him as a sturdy well – built young and handsome man. Tara has grown up too, but her nature has not changed a bit. She still loiters in the village and climbs tree and goes for fishing. The old intimacy between them flickered u p again with new colour of youthfullness.

A friend of tara’s elder brother came for a pleasure trip and in a very weak moment the embraced Tara in a lonely room. Tara shreiked and screamed, Tara’s elder brother, and the servants appeared on the spot before any evil was done. But in the village such harmless happening took the shape of fictious mouth publicity leading to a scandal.

Jagidsh Roy a rich and influential man as not in good terms with Nayab Anant Sen as the Nayab always stood against Jagdish Roy’s selfish and evil motives. Bada (Abhi), the daroga of the village whose eyes were on tara’s beauty and lust, was bribed by Jagdish Roy for his revenge upon Nayab Anant Sen.
Like all other years Durga Pooja in the house of Nayab Anant Sen, Jagdish Roy came with his gang and shouted scandalous word against Nayab Anant Sen’t daughter Tara. Ghanshyam could not bear to hear the false allegation and scandalous word, came forward to defeat but the gang of Jagdish Roy charged and quarrel took the big shape of lathi fight and in doing so Jagdish Roy was killed by Ghanshyam. The police took Ghanshyam into the custody.

Badal, the daroga of the village put up his proposal to nayab Anant Sen that if he agrees to give his daughter Tara in marriage he will let Ghanshyam free. Tara volunteered to get herself wedded with the drunkard and selfish Badal to save her father and Ghanshyam. Nayab Anany Sen was set free but Ghanshyam was sentenced to life imprisonment and transported to Andaman Islands which was known as Kala Pani.

The married life of Badal and Tara was not all happy. The fickle infatuation of Badal passed off within the very short period and he hankered after another girl of the neighbouring village. Tara came to known about the girl and tried to save the girl but at the cost of her husband. Tara surrendered herself to police and she was sentenced to life imprisonment. She pleaded to send her to Andaman Islands Jail. And she was sent to the Andaman Island Jail.

It was indeed a Anokha Milan of separated two hearts meeting in a new way of life.
