For Prem (Shashi Kapoor) and his family, their home was like a temple, built on the foundations of love and sacrifice. His family was made up of his wife Laxmi (Moushumi Chatterjee), his brothers Vijay (Raj Kiran) and Ravi (Mithun), his children Krishna and Sujata, and his friend Rahim (Suresh Oberoi). Prem and Rahim, were colleagues in a factory owned by Sheth Dharamdas, who ran his factory like a slave shop with the help of his strongman Shera. Prem lost his life fighting for the rights of his fellow workers, and the temple lost its main patron god. Sapna, Sheth Dharamdas sister marries Vijay and takes him away from home. Rahim also falls to the vicissitudes of time. Bereft of all support and hope, Laxmi only has her brother in law Ravi, to protect her. And even he may be snatched by Sheth Dharamdas. Does Sheth Dharamdas succeed in his machinations, or does Ravi stand by Laxmi as a pillar of support.
