Haasil directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and starring Jimmy Shergil, Hrishita Bhatt, Irfan Khan, Asutosh Rana is a love story set against the backdrop of University politics, in Allahabad. Jimmy Shergil, an enthusiastic college student is secretly in love with Hrishita Bhatt. Their love progresses in a rather subdued manner thanks to the conservative values and norms of society. While rehearsing for one of his shows, Jimmy Shergil bumps into Irfan Khan and helps him to escape from a rival gang after having committed a murder. Irfan Khan and Asutosh Rana are arch rivals in college politics, both being after the prized position of the presidency of the students union. They are aided, abetted and manipulated by full time politicians. Jimmy and Hrishita s love almost comes to an end when the couple is caught red handed. The following day Jimmy shoots one of Hrishita s cousins and escapes. But things are not as straightforward as it seems. When Jimmy returns to his hometown, he discovers that Irfan is all set to marry Hrishita. The sordid story of college politics is given a raw realistic touch by talented, first time director Tigmanshu Dhilia. The conservative norms, the helplessness of students and the prevalent violence, and political thuggery are dealt with effectively.
